2. Emotional SMARTS® Self-Scoring Profiles

Both versions of the Emotional SMARTS® Self-Scoring Profiles were designed by Dr. June Donaldson, Certified Mediator & Arbitrator; Reverend Eric Haffenden, a registered psychologist and past president of the Alberta Psychological Association; and Mr. Grant Walker, President of Training and Development Materials of Canada, an individual with extensive experience in test, assessment and profile design and distribution. Their collective knowledge resulted in the creation of these two credible, reliable and valid emotional intelligence self-scoring profiles and the related Emotional SMARTS® Facilitator Guide which is described below.

Dr. Donaldson's intent in creating the profiles and related Facilitator Guide was to design an educational, cost effective, confidential, easy to use and apply learning tool. Field testing of the profiles commenced in 1999.

Equally as important, she wanted to make it easy and affordable for business professionals (leaders, training and development professionals, consultants and career counselors) to introduce Emotional SMARTS® concepts to their client base. As a result, the Emotional SMARTS® Facilitator Guide provides step by step instruction on how to present and administer each one of the profiles. The guide also provides ideas on how to develop meaningful exercises for groups.

These powerful learning tools are offered with a NO FEE - NO LEADER TRAINING or CERTIFICATION FEE License Agreement. The process is not unlike opening software you might use on your computer and being asked to agree with the supplier's License Agreement terms.

Remember that both profiles are self-scoring and therefore confidential to the respondent. Only if the respondent elects to share their results are the results known by anyone else. That means there is no need for a respondent to worry about their personal information being misunderstood, misused or misrepresented.

From a facilitator perspective, considering newly introduced privacy laws in some countries that relate to the protection of personal information, this approach should lessen the cost, burden, litigation risk and responsibility of introducing and applying this type of information.

(a) The Emotional SMARTS® Self-Scoring Profile - SHORT edition - Form A. Cost $9.95 plus taxes and shipping.

Form A, the short form, enables people to respond to 94 statements and assess their proficiency in the four main Emotional SMARTS® Cornerstones of Awareness, Behavioural, Contact and Decision-Making. This form takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and results in respondents having a graphic display of their Emotional SMARTS® in the above areas.

(b) The Emotional SMARTS® Self-Scoring Profile - LONG edition - Form B. Cost $16.50 plus taxes and shipping.

Form B, the long form, enables people to respond to the same 94 statements identified above to assess their proficiency in the four main Emotional SMARTS® Cornerstones of Awareness, Behavioural, Contact and Decision-Making. In addition, this form enables respondents to assess at a deeper level their proficiency in the sixteen (16) skill sets that underpin the 4 main Cornerstones. A major benefit of Form B is that respondents obtain graphic images of the skills where they shine and skills that might need their attention. This information provides them with direction on skill development they can undertake after the Emotional SMARTS® session. Form B takes approximately one hour to complete.

3. The Emotional SMARTS® Facilitator Guide (including slide masters). Cost $45.00 plus taxes and shipping.

This guide provides a description of each of the 4 Cornerstones and 16 supporting Characteristics, or skill sets, so facilitators know how to credibly position, describe and present the Emotional SMARTS® model and concepts.
